BYD: Future Plans for BYD Electric Vehicles Leaked

The future plans for electric vehicles (EVs) of the BYD leaked, revealing the launch of a new electric SUV in April to compete with the Tesla Model Y, one of the best-selling models of the brand.

After surpassing Tesla in the last three months of 2023, becoming the world's best-selling EV manufacturer, BYD intends to maintain its position by launching several new electric models.

Ocean Series Launches

The leaked plans for BYD's Ocean series in China include the launches of the new models. Seal e Dolphin this year, along with a new electric SUV designed to compete with Tesla's Model Y.

The new model Dolphin "Champion Edition"an electric hatchback will kick off this offensive.

The Dolphin, one of BYD's best-selling models in China and abroad, will feature design updates and a larger battery, allowing for a range of up to 520 km (323 miles) CLTC, an increase compared to the previous 420 km (260 miles).

Global Expansion and Competition

Dolphin sales reached 18,905 units in just the last month, representing an increase of 71% compared to January of the previous year. Recently, BYD launched the Dolphin in international markets such as Mexico, Japan, Europe, and Brazil.

New Electric SUV Sea Lion 07

BYD will continue with the launch of its new electric SUV. Sea Lion 07a mid-size electric SUV expected to compete directly with Tesla's Model Y.

Revealed in November at the 2023 Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition, the Sea Lion 07 is described as the brand's first mid-size smart urban electric SUV.

Design and Competitive Prices

Wolfgang Egger, former designer of Lamborghini and Audi, led the design of the electric SUV, which features elements from both iconic brands.

With dimensions similar to the Tesla Model Y, the Sea Lion 07 will be offered in three engine configurations, with prices starting at around 200,000 to 260,000 yuan (approximately $28,000 – $35,900), below the prices of Tesla's Model Y.

Upgrades and New Models

In June, BYD plans to launch an enhanced version of Seal EV, competing with Tesla's Model 3. A new BYD Seal S it is scheduled for September, with few details revealed so far.

Entry into the Ultra-luxury Segment

Moreover, BYD is expanding into the ultra-luxury segment with the launch of the new Yangwang U7a luxury electric sedan with nearly 1,300 hp and 800 km (500 miles) of CLTC range, expected to start around $140.000 (1,000,000 yuan).

Outlook for 2024

BYD continues to expand its line with new EVs, maintaining momentum in 2024. With record sales of 1.6 million EVs in the last year, a 731% increase compared to 2022, and new models being launched in key markets globally, the brand is well positioned to foster growth in 2024.
