SUV stands for (Sport Utility Vehicle), in Portuguese Veículo Utilitário Esportivo; in general, SUVs tend to be significantly larger than other cars, which provides more internal space.
Another interesting feature of the SUV is its ground clearance, which is necessary to overcome obstacles that most other vehicles cannot.
In addition, the possibility of having four-wheel drive (the popular 4×4) elevates the SUV to another level compared to other cars, making it possible to navigate various types of terrain.
How to know if a car is an SUV?
O Inmetro consider that for a car model to be classified as an SUV, it must have at least two of the four characteristics below.
- A minimum angle of attack of 23º.
- A departure angle of at least 23º.
- The ramp transition angle must be at least 10º.
- As for the ground clearance between the axles, it must be at least 200mm, and the minimum clearance over the front and rear axles should be 180mm.
